Fireworks Over Spirit River Flowage

As July comes to a close, I'm finally getting around to sharing these photos from our July 4 weekend getaway to Tomahawk, Wisconsin. These pictures from July 5 at Mama D's du Lac restaurant have been in my camera roll, transporting me back to that summer evening every time I see them.

I love watch fireworks over a body of water. Positioned right on Spirit River Flowage, Mama D's offered the ideal vantage point for the show. The lights reflected off the water, creating dreamy double images that felt almost too beautiful to be real. Each sparkling burst of light painted the lake in temporary brushstrokes of red, white, and blue before fading back to darkness.

It had been raining all evening, but it stopped just in time for us to enjoy the fireworks display. These are the moments that remind me why I love midwest summers so much. There's an unhurried quality to celebrations here, where the main event is often just being together.
